The sun showed little activity in the period August 18-23, 1978. A filament, near central meridian passage, disappeared at approximately 0120 U.T. on August 23, with a SSC recorded at earth at 0247 U.T. on August 27 that appears to be associated with it. On August 25, the low-energy proton detector on board the ISEE-3 spacecraft detected a particle increase which commenced prior to mid-day, and lasted until about 1730 U.T. on August 27. Data for the event are displayed and the possible origin of the particles is discussed.
