A model solar photosphere is derived from observed absolute intensity and limb darkening of the continuum spectrum between 4000 and 24018 A. The results, with lg τc at 5000 A as argument, are given in TABLE 2.
This model yields satisfactory agreement with the observations. For the limb darkening coefficient and the continuum absolute intensity of the centre of the solar disk, the Bean relative errors are 1.2% and 0.68%, respectively.
Relative to the Harvard-Smithsonian Reference Atmosphere(HSRA), the present model temperature is higher for lg τc <= -1.00, by not more than 9%. The lg Pg curve differs by a constant shift; this is possibly caused by the use of different chemical composition. The geometrical depth is smaller than that of HSRA for lg τc < 0.0, and is greater, for Ig τc> 0.0; this is possibly due to the use of modified continuum absorption coefficient.
