The aim of this paper is to propose a simple approach to the study of influence of the oblateness of planet on the rotational motion of its natural and artificial satellites. We apply the proposed method for constructing a simple model for the study of the rotational motion of a satellite in a circular equatorial orbit around an oblate planet. We apply this model to show the significance of the influence of Jupiter oblateness on librations of Amaltea. We also derive a system of differential equations describing the rotational motion of a satellite. It is a generalization of the first model and it is valid for an arbitrary circular and precessing orbit with an arbitrary inclination. We apply this model to demonstrate the influence of the Earth oblateness on the orientation of CESAR satellite.
