A theoretical analytic model of open flux tube motion over the dayside magnetopause has been developed. The model considers the motion of open tubes following reconnection at an arbitrary point and the properties of the resulting boundary layer plasma. The solutions demonstrate various phenomena, depending on relative field orientation and the position of the flux tube at the magnetopause.
