On October 21, 2010, ARTEMIS spacecraft P2, located at about -57 RE_GSM in the magnetotail, observed a series of several flux ropes. Subsequently, ARTEMIS spacecraft P1, located about 20 RE further downtail and deeper in the lobe than P2, observed a series of TCRs, caused by the flux ropes propagating underneath P1 downtail. This dual-spacecraft configuration allows a simultaneous examination of flux ropes and the disturbances they cause in the lobe. The first feature can be identified as an O-line propagating downtail, followed by the flux rope/TCR series. Timing between the flux ropes seen on P2 and the TCRs observed by P1 reveal high propagation speeds of up to 2300 km/s. A principal axis investigation indicates a tilting of the flux ropes between 44° and 49° in the x-y-plane. Taking into account this tilt, the propagation speed is determined to be between 900 and 1300 km/s. The timing also revealed an increase in the velocity with the first observed feature having the smallest and the last one the highest propagation velocity. Besides this, a clear correlation of the magnetic field and plasma flow components inside the flux ropes are observed. Possible mechanisms leading to the formation of tilted flux ropes and the consecutive increase in the propagation velocity from the first to the last flux rope are discussed.
