A new area-scanning technique is described. It allows the measurement of the individual brightness of the components of close binary systems with standard photoelectric accuracy in average seeing of 2 seconds of arc or more. Measurements can be made when the separation of the components is near the theoretical resolution of the telescope. The position angle and separation is also measurable with high accuracy in these cases.
