Very low electron temperature (VLET) regions in the solar wind (lasting 12-30h) are examined with reference to thermal conductivity parallel to interplanetary magnetic field lines. A statistical analysis of VLET is presented on the basis of its dependence on interplanetary plasma and field parameters. It is found that VLET exists during low proton temperature events (lower than VLET by a factor of 3), as well as after a shock front. Attention is given to the closed magnetic loop ('blob') model, whereby pure adiabatic expansion across a radially-streaming solar wind is assumed, both with and without pressure equalization across the 'blob' boundary.
