The goal of this proposal is to search for Earth Trojans, i.e., coorbiting asteroids near the Lagrangian points of the Earth. It was once considered unlikely that Trojans of any of the terrestrial planets could survive for long timescales. However, recent dynamical studies (Evans and Tabachnik 2000) suggest that this reasoning is incorrect. It is thus timely to begin direct searches for Earth Trojans. If successful, this would be the discovery of a new category of solar system object. Even the absence of such objects is interesting, as it would constrain the evolution of the near-Earth environment. If Earth Trojans have the same cumulative luminosity function as the Jovian Trojans, we expect to find 5 Earth Trojans in this proposed run.
