Air Showers: Point Sources, Air Showers: X-Ray Binaries
Scientific paper
Using new data (from February 1990 to July 1991), the authors have looked for DC excesses for potential sources observable in the northern hemisphere. Among these sources, Cygnus X-3 gives the largest excess of 3.4σ, supporting the results obtained by the Fly's Eye and the Akeno 20 km2 array. The authors studied the cumulative excess from the direction of Cygnus X-3 as a function of time, and an excess of showers has been found to be correlated with the radio flare from 21 Jan 1991. The excess events show a harder energy spectrum than that of the cosmic ray background.
