Recent work (Posner &Hassler, 2006) has found evidence that relativistic electrons arriving before the energetic ions of a solar energetic particle (SEP) event can provide not only advance warning of the impending arrival of the ions but also, because of correlations between the properties of the SEP electrons and ions, advance prediction of the characteristics of the ion population. We will present the results of a search for such precursors and correlations in the energy-resolved proton and electron data measured over the polar caps by the low-Earth-orbit SAMPEX satellite from 1992 to the present.
