We propose to use the ATCA 3-mm receivers to search for CO 3-2 emission from the z ˜ 2.347 damped Lyman-alpha system towards PKS0438-436, to confirm a tentative detection of emission from our earlier ATCA director's discretionary time observations. If confirmed, this will be the first detection of molecular emission from a normal galaxy at high redshift. We request a total of 24 hours for the observations, which should allow us to detect the line, if real, at ˜ 6 sigma significance.
