A search for cosmic ray antihelium has been made using the data obtained with the BESS magnetic rigidity spectrometer during the '97 and '98 flights from Lynn Lake, Canada. The search is based on precise measurements of rigidity, time-of-flight and dE/dx. No antihelium candidate is observed in the rigidity range from 1 to 16 GV/c. By combining these data with the results from previous flights, a new upper limit of 1 10Ð6 is obtained on the He / He ratio at the top of the atmosphere after correcting for interaction losses in the air and the instruments.
