Providing bright, almost point like hotspots, water masers are a powerful tool to study the structure and dynamics of the emitting gas, because they can be mapped at sub-milliarcsecond resolution using VLBI, providing useful information on starburst regions of nearby galaxies and the sub-parsec scale environment around AGN. Despite ~3000 galaxies have been surveyed, only ~100 have been detected. Here, we propose to observe with the Tidbinbilla 70-m telescope a sample of recently identified Seyfert galaxies that have been detected by INTEGRAL in the hard X-ray band between 20 and 100 keV, in a search for 22 GHz maser emission. Each new water maser detection represents a goldmine of information on the emitting region and host galaxy that can be obtained by interferometric (ATCA and/or LBA) follow-ups.
