The visual photometry of the 1885 supernova in M31 has been reanalyzed
and the resulting light curve shown to match modern photometry of type I
supernovae. The derived absolute photographic magnitude at maximum
light, -18.5, compares very well with the mean value derived from
observations of other type I events.
