On the basis of data for the surface air temperature in the Northern hemisphere for the period 1881-1988 it is shown that a well expressed relation exists between the temperature and the solar activity. The sign of the correlation changes from negative until 1920-1930 to positive afterwards. The existing theories do not explain this change of the sign of the correlation. It is suggested that it is related to the 'centennial' cycle of solar activity.
