The design parameters and experimental characteristics of a reflector analyzer of low-energy rarefied plasma are described. The design and principles of operation of the analyzer consisting of a reflector and a collector unit are outlined. The instrument allows analysis of charged particles on the basis of their initial reflection and subsequent focusing. The mirror reflection permits selection of the charged particles according to the sign of the charge and its energy, whereas the collector ensures simultaneous recording of the particles in both a narrow and a fairly wide angular range. Experimental results show that focusing sharpness increases with decreasing cell size of the reflector and that differential energy spectra can be obtained with a resolution up to several volts irrespective of the average energy of the particles.
