We show that the 18.6 year precession of the lunar orbit has a substantial influence on the lunar surface temperature. The neglect of this signal in previous publications will act to bias the heat flow estimates that have been made at the Apollo 15 and 17 sites.1683The Nili Fossae region preserves a critical record of early Mars: Noachian basement enriched in low-Ca pyroxene, a deep and pervasive aqueous alteration, on which rests olivine-rich deposits interpreted to be impact melt from the Isidis event.
