A model is presented of the magnetospheric boundary under disturbed conditions in the form of a 'tangential rupture' as distinct from the zero width, when two surfaces on which the normal component of the magnetic field and velocity vanish, and do not agree with each other. It is shown that solar energy can penetrate such a boundary into the magnetosphere; the variation in the velocity, density, the magnetic field, and the boundary layer thickness with the geocentric distance is computed within the scope of the quasi-one-dimensional model.
