Binary configurations containing a low mass primary, with a compact object having a negligible magnetic field are assumed to provide the basis for a model in which the main observable properties of galactic X-ray sources are as follows: no X-ray pulsations, rare incidence of eclipse, soft X-ray spectrum, and a lowered ratio of optical to X-ray luminosity. Sco X-1 and Cyg X-2 are studied together with galactic-bulge and globular-cluster sources to provide empirical support for the model.
