A preliminary analysis of convection in a mantle with a heterogeneous distribution of heat producing elements was made using simple fluid dynamical models. Distribution of elements is changed by the convective motion. We found that, depending on the types of the element distribution, there may occur, (1) oscillation of convective motion, (2) decrease of the amplitude of convection, and (3) conservation of the original distribution of heat-producing elements for a considerable length of time. These results imply that heterogeneity and convective motions in the mantle may have a close connection with each other.
