A unique horizontal-vertical array of multiwire proportional counters termed the 'underground fly's eye' has been used for a precise measurement of the angular distribution of cosmic ray muons at a depth of 157,000 g/sq cm. The fraction of isotropically produced muons above 1 TeV, relative to pions of the same energy, is determined as 0.0025 + or - 0.001 (statistical error only). This appears to be consistent with the contribution from semileptonic decays of charmed mesons.
