We present a new technique which allows a correction for pile up effects observed with STJ detectors. We analyse data of real astrophysical targets and show the effects of this technique on the observed spectrum. We find that the best pile-up correction is based on the time lag with respect to the previous photon and the energy of the previous photon. In order for this correction to work well, precise photon time tagging of the order of 1 5 μs is needed. With this correction STJ detectors can be operated at somewhat higher count rates without serious degradation of their energy resolution.
