Developing an idea by Di Fazio and Occhionero (1978), it is shown that the initial conditions (repartition of energy between rotation and thermal content) determine whether the following evolution of a protogalaxy will be dissipative or not. In the latter limiting case, the system will only have a spheroidal component, thus forming an elliptical, while in the first case the system will develop a disk (thus forming a spiral or an SO galaxy).
