The paper examines a possibility of pumping of the photospheric magnetic field by hydrodynamic motions up to large values of the magnetic force, such that the magnetic energy density exceeds the kinetic density. The possibility of such pumping is illustrated by a simple example of Hartmann flow, and a stochastic model of pumping is developed for the case when the magnetic field is amplified by granulation motions. The granules have short lifetimes, and the model agrees with the observations. Finally, an estimate is given of saturation effects in the case when further amplification of the field is not possible.
