The intrinsic scatter in a period-luminosity relation established for galactic Miras is analyzed and periods and bolometric magnitudes are studied. Out of 12 Mira variables found in a field of 0.3 deg sq in the Bar of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), 10 were observed with an IR photometer. Data indicated that the intrinsic scatter was less than the value of 0.25-0.30 mag established for classical Cepheids and the adoption of the galactic zero point is implying a distance modulus for the LMC of 18.5 mag.
