Two-Body Problem: Relativity Theory
Scientific paper
One of the fundamental problems of orbital mechanics is the Kepler problem, the calculation of the final position and velocity of an orbiting body (such as a planet orbiting a star) given its initial position and velocity and time of flight. The author discusses a solution to the relativistic Kepler problem using an extension of the numerical integration techniques commonly used for the nonrelativistic Kepler problem. The author also discusses some interesting properties of relativistic orbits in a spherically symmetric gravitational field.
