A real-time numerical method for analyzing radioheliographic data at the 1.77 m wavelength is described. The measured emissions are characterized by a steady level of activity punctuated by bursts of activity of from 1/10 sec to several minutes duration. Operation of the two interferometer arrays comprising the radiotelescope is reviewed, noting that the use of dual instrumentation allows precise determination of the site of emissions. Imagery is corrected for diurnal motion and reocrded on magnetic tape, then filtered numerically with respect to Nyquist criteria. Fourier transforms, integration, and data compression techniques are used to reconstitute the spatial and temporal evolution of the bursts in real-time. An array processor connected to a minicomputer permits evaluation of 50 images/sec, and methods for expanding the capacity to 200 images/sec are outlined. Programming diagrams for the data transfer, storage, and processing operations of the system are given.
