Assuming that the secular decrease in the sidereal mean motion of
Mercury is due to the sun-Mercury tidal torque, an estimation of the
expansion of Mercury's orbit is proposed. The tidal phase-lag angle of
the tidal bulge is found to be significant, and is estimated to be 2.1
deg/k.
