The radial flow of an inviscid heat conducting gas, with gravitational effects, is considered. The gas is assumed non-monatomic, but the limit to the monatomic state is considered in great detail. It is shown that the results of Roberts & Soward (1972) can be predicted from the present analysis, and further that considerable light is shed on their results. For the nonmonatomic gas, the various asymptotic regions (obtained when the energy flux at infinity approaches zero) are far simpler in their details than those encountered by Roberts & Soward.
