Mirrors: Optical Testing

Scientific paper

One, out of three, 15 cm pyrex flat mirrors has been tested with a Fizeau interferometer, using a λ/20 master reference flat. The resulting interferograms have been analyzed with a coordinate measuring machine having one micrometer least count along one axis. Zonal surface accuracies at 91 points on the mirror have been obtained. The subject mirror, on an average, possesses maximum RMS distortion ≡λ/17 on the edges and minimum RMS distortion ≡λ/19 towards the center.
