The EISCAT measurements are based on the autocorrelation function technique. An alternative approach is to derive the ionospheric parameters from an estimate of the power spectrum for the received radar signal. We have used a nonlinear maximum entropy method to deduce parameters from the power spectrum of a generated signal. A comparison has been made with parameters obtained by the ACF method. This preliminary study suggests that the spectrum method could become useful, especially for determining the position of peaks in the incoherent scatter spectrum.
