A new procedure is outlined for the rapid calculation of transmittances
of atmospheric gases in the infrared. A feature of the method is the
relatively high accuracy (better than 1%) and the fact that any line
shape can be handled. The highest gain in speed over direct line-by-line
integration is in the low pressure region (Voigt or Doppler profiles).
