A mechanism, based on transdomain processes, in which viscous remanent magnetization (VRM) is acquired in multidomain or pseudosingle grains is proposed. The transition of a grain from the local energy minimum states to the absolute energy minimum is studied. The equations for acquiring the transdomain VRM are presented and procedures are described. The relation between the transdomain VRM and the primary maganetization is analyzed. The occurrence of stable overprinting during long magnetic prolarity intervals is examined.
