The Polar Anglo-American Conjugate Experiment is described and the type of magnetic coordinate system required for this experiment is discussed. The method used to define the new coordinate system is presented and the 1980 epoch CGM system is compared with the new system. The relationship between magnetic longitude and magnetic local time is considered with allowance made for the seasonal effects of the sun's apparent position.
