The EISCAT incoherent radar system is capable of measuring many ionospheric parameters. In order to study neutral atmosphere and ionospheric interactions, it is highly desirable to make direct measurements of the neutral atmosphere. A new Imaging Fabry-Perot Interferometer (IFPI) has been constructed to investigate the energy and momentum coupling processes between the ionosphere and thermosphere within the auroral oval, in conjunction with EISCAT. Some initial results from the first simultaneous measurements using the IFPI and EISCAT in February and March 1996 are reported.
