A method is proposed for polishing large and fast primaries with a rectangular, flexible lap. The rear side of the lap is covered with computer controlled pressure actuators which are used to control the amount of material removed for surface error correction. This method has been developed in the laboratory and tested to some extend, figuring the f/2.2 primary of 3.5 m diameter for the ESO New-Technology-Telescope.
