Introduction: Recent investigations on the delay time of type Ia supernovae have set useful constraints on the progenitors of type Ia supernovae. Methods: Here we calculate the evolution of a white dwarf binary with a relatively low-mass donor star in close orbits. We assume that a small part of the transferred material forms a circumbinary disk, which extracts orbital angular momentum from the binary. Results: We find that the mass transfer in this case can be accelerated, and the white dwarf can accumulate mass efficiently to reach the Chandrasekhar mass, thus suggesting a new evolutionary channel to type Ia supernovae. Discussion: Our results also suggest the existence of rapidly accreting white dwarfs with a very low-mass donor star.
