Flare Stars: Pleiades, Flare Stars: Open Clusters, Membership: Open Clusters
Scientific paper
A detailed new discussion about the membership of flare stars in the Pleiades region is given with some statistical comparisons, based on the maximum likelihood estimate of membership probabilities by means of a finer model. The fraction (relative number) of flare stars with membership greater than 0.5 in the red dwarfs of the cluster is re-calculated. It is indicated that the relative number increases with magnitude for MV < 8.0, reaches to about 64% at MV ≍ 8.0 and then remains roughly constant up to the limit of completeness of the sample (MV ≍ 11.5). Thus, about 1/3 of the red dwarfs in the Pleiades cluster may lack the apparent flare activity.
