A previously unidentified phenomenon in Sq current distribution is examined with geomagnetic observations at low latitudes from the dip equator to the northern focus of the Sq current system. The horizontal and vertical components of the geomagnetic field are shown to reach maximum values simultaneously on one day. The equatorial electrojet is cancelled on that day, and an additional current system that is wider than the electrojet is theorized to cause the unusual event.
