The author suggests that the period of the submillisecond optical pulsar in SN 1987A is related to the pulsation period of the neutron star. A recent analysis of the arrival times of the neutrions from the supernova provides significant evidence of pulsed emission with a period equivalent to that of the pulsar. At first sight, an old theoretical model seems to account satisfactorily for this intriguing discovery: a cold, strongly pulsating neutron star created in the implosion of the core of the supernova would produce a pulsed emission of neutrions of the observed energies; most of the neutrions would be emitted during the first few seconds, as observed. However, there is a flaw in this theoretical model: the temperature of a cold, strongly pulsating neutron star should rapidly rise.
