Near-infrared (JHKL') observations have been obtained of the binary system V0332+53. This is an X-ray transient consisting of a Be star in partnership with a neutron star. The IR data reveal a spectral component, separate from the optical emission, which undergoes changes on a time-scale of years. The possible origin of this IR component is discussed and it is suggested that the most likely interpretation is emission from a circumstellar gas cloud.
