A multidomain model of thermoremanence (TRM) is proposed based on an energy expression incorporating interactions between a domain wall and an external field, the demagnetizing field, and lattice defects. The temperature dependence of the first two interactions is incorporated using the Weiss molecular field construction, while that of the defect interactions is represented by a power law. Thermal activation energy is also taken into account, yielding an alternative explanation of Néel's thermal agitation field. The model has the same physical basis as Néel's multidomain model as generalized by Everitt and by Dunlop and Waddington, but is cast in a more basic form in which the coercive force is a derived quantity. The model explicitly predicts a strong dependence of the blocking temperature on the external field, a feature that is inherent in Néel's model, but lacking in multidomain theories based on Stacey's model.
