With the advent of array detectors, new developments of Fourier Transform Spectrometers can be envisaged, giving the possibility to recover its full multiplex gain, which is partially lost with single detectors on bright objects and in the thermal infrared, in particular behind large telecopes, while keeping its other advantages unique to such instruments. The solution is a multichannel FTS. The capabilities of large spectral coverage and high resolving power remain intact.
