The Zhugzhda (1983) model for interpreting the 2-3 min-period velocity and intensity oscillations observed above the umbrae, which explains them in terms of the resonant transmission of slow mode magnetic-acoustic waves that are 'semitrapped' in a chromospheric cavity, is presently extended by means of more detailed calculations and corroborated in light of recently published observations. The calculations are noted to be in good agreement with the height dependence of the observed phase difference between the intensity and velocity oscillations, as well as the frequency spectrum of oscillations in the transition region above sunspots.
