A scheme is constructed for the distribution of the gravitational potential of force due to gravity based on a geometrical figure for Phobos which assumes constant density. A scheme for the distribution of the horizontal components at points on the surface of the satellite is also constructed. Expansion coefficients for the gravitational potential in the space outside the satellite are obtained in the form of a series of spherical functions up to the sixth order. The characteristics of the gravitational fields of Phobos, Deimos, the moon, Mars, and earth are compared, and two hypotheses are formed for the formulation of the Martian satellite. It is proposed that Phobos was a uniform fragment of a celestial body, or it was formed as an aggregate by accretion of heterogeneous bodies and particles.
