A model for the formation of braids, kinks and filaments in Saturn's rings is presented. They are shown to be a consequence of the electromagnetic equilibrium of moving charged grains, where the electrostatic pressure on the grain is balanced by the ``pinch pressure'' due to the dust ring current. On the basis of stability considerations it is further argued that the formation of equilibria with braids and filaments may be a dynamic process critically dependent on local plasma conditions prevailing in the ring.
