A scenario for the behavior of FG Sge is proposed, its future behavior is predicted, and observations that can test the proposed model are suggested. The s-process enhancement observed during an expansion and visual brightening phase immediately preceding the current dimming and contraction phase is due to mixing at different times by three distinct convective zones. It is predicted that, within a few months, the rate of decline in visual magnitude will proceed on a time scale of years rather than on the current time scale of months; this time scale is dictated by hydrogen burning at the base of an envelope of a very small mass. A significant brightening of the star in the UV, followed a few months later by a gradual brightening of the nebula on a time scale of a few years, is also predicted.
