It is shown that observations of semidiurnal temperature oscillations
from Millstone Hill, St. Santin, and Arecibo are consistently explained
by the simultaneous presence of 2, 4 and 2, 5 tidal modes. The latter
mode is found even during equinoxes, when it receives negligible direct
forcing, suggesting the importance of wind-induced mode coupling.
