Two large magnetic depressions have been observed in the solar wind just upstream of the Earth's bow shock. These depressions possess similar properties to the magnetic hole phenomena that have been observed in the solar wind, but the structures observed in this case were much larger, the depressions lasting for ~10 mins. The larger depression was interspersed with foreshock phenomena and so the observations describe a large-scale solar wind structure and its interaction with the foreshock region. Particle and magnetic field data from AMPTE UKS and ISEE1 are presented. The isotropic nature of the electrons within the solar wind structure appears to suggest the depression is a magnetically separate structure propagating with the solar wind e.g. a flux rope.
