The 1993 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to R. A. Hulse and J. H.
Taylor for the "discovery of a new type of pulsar, a discovery that has
opened up new possibilities for the study of gravitation". In subsequent
work, general relativity passed new, strong-field tests with complete
success.
